Grid-based Search Engine for the Developing World

Period

2007-2009

Description

The aim of this project is to develop techniques for information retrieval that exploit existing grid technology and the types of infrastructure available in developing countries. Specifically, there are seldom large clusters but there are large numbers of often-connected computers, often in locations such as tertiary institutions. Thus, this project will consider how best to utilise idle machines to process data and queries in closed organisations.
