Visit to UCT

2002-11-27

the University of Cape Town invited me over for an interview and i took some pics of the place and surounding area

the view that greets you as you emerge from the tunnel under the freeway - WOW - and, no, the mountain isnt that close - it just looks that way in 2-D

a slightly side view from the same spot on the far end of the rugby fields

[ filesize:1274x682 resolution: ]

Rhodes, the man himself, at the foot of the stairs that lead up to the main campus

[ filesize:800x519 resolution: ]

the main hall, Jameson Hall, which was surprisingly similar to the UDW hall on the inside (don't tell anyone - i snuck in)

[ filesize:800x600 resolution: ]

one of the buildings that led me to call this an "ivy league" institution

[ filesize:800x369 resolution: ]

the side of the zoology building, with a great view of the city below, and specially imported Italian terracotta tiles on the roof

[ filesize:800x495 resolution: ]

the city spreads out below the university as seen from the top of the steps leading to the Jameson hall

[ filesize:800x411 resolution: ]

and a similar view from the Rhodes Memorial a little further up the mountain

the lions at the Rhodes Memorial ... reminds me of ghostbusters for some reason :)

and, finally, the room i stayed at in the Devonshire Guesthouse ... quaint little place that seemed quite uncannily Floridian
