2001-01-01

pics from multiple trips into San Francisco, including on New Years Day 2001

after leaving Monterey ... to prove i was actually here

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

some missionary who was important for some reason i just cannot remember ... oh boy, my memory is really going :)

[ filesize:445x271 resolution: ]

San Francisco skyline from the highway as we approach the city

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

the Bay Bridge over which we went by accident one day because a detour led us here without any warning

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

looks really cool ... and we did get an added bonus of a trip to Oakland on the other side of the bay

[ filesize:480x640 resolution: ]

the city in all its foggy glory

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

and a view of the hill with Coit Tower on it, and piers at the bottom

[ filesize:640x331 resolution: ]

driving along the Embarcadero where all the piers are located ... notice the classic Californian palms

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

more palms ... gotta love dem palms :))

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

me, on the top of the hill on which Coit Tower is located, with an itty-bitty view of the city behind me

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

Alcatraz as i first saw it from the top of the Coit Tower

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

and the Golden Gate bridge in the distance

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

a view of the gridiron city streets with an interesting perspective attached because of the height of the tower

[ filesize:480x640 resolution: ]

the Bay Bridge in the other direction

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

and the Coit Tower from outside ... i think it was named for some Coit person who was a benefactor of the Fire Department

[ filesize:480x640 resolution: ]

official entrance to Chinatown ... i have a fridge magnet of this too !

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

streets in Chinatown ... very busy and we couldnt find parking ... only difference is that all the shops were Chinese and non-Chinese people were scarce

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

architecture that would be very out of place is this wasnt Chinatown

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

Edward and i outside a store selling very much Asian stuff

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

SFO had lots of hills and this was a typical very straight road that went down the hill and then up another

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

Ghirardelli Square ! Jackpot !!!

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

the old chocolate factory ... yummmm

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

Anne and i sitting outside the main store (where i did buy lots of goodies)

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

me, Anne and Edward drinking hot chocolate in the Ghirardelli Coffee Shop ... what more could i possibly want :))

[ filesize:640x271 resolution: ]

Edward hyper-bowling in the Sony Metreon ... this was a virtual bowling game where you used a large trackball-like gizmo to control your ball ... loads of fun

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

me trying to get my ball down the streets of SFO to the pins at the end

[ filesize:640x480 resolution: ]

and i must be having fun from the very strange expression :)
