Well this is probablly a bit redundant news, but the JRE package that is available on ei.cs.vt.edu is not the same package that is described in the installation manual should anyone read it. Javasoft's latest edition of JRE is now currently up to version 1.2.2. This file could be downloaded from javasoft at

http://www.javasoft.com/products/jdk/1.2/jre/download-windows.html

This version is slightly bigger than i can't say that i've tried it. The version that is descrbed in the installation manual is 1.17b.

I noticed that version 1.16 had problems with path statements both in 95/98/NT. Though this problem seemed to have been corrected with 1.17b.

For those of you who are using 1.16 and using either 95 or 98, you can put the full path name of the directory where the \bin directory from the JRE is residing in your PATH statement from your autoexec.bat. Though you have to careful to use the 8.3 shortened names from the long file name directories.

For those of you who are using NT, to actually apply your path statements, you can either set them globally for system variables (admin rights) or individually apply them to your individual user accounts. For both, however, you must remember to click the SET button and then also the apply button. Otherwise, no changes will take place.
