I agree that the final is weighted too much. As for myself, I do a lot better on projects and homework, than I do on tests. I just test very poorly. I don't think that a test reflects what I've learned throughout the semester; I think that my project grades reflect that I have absorbed the knowledge taught and I can use that knowledge. I think that it is good to have a final, but I don't think that it is fair that it is weighted 30% and we could potential fail the class even if we've done average on everything else.
