This is a group assignment – you may work in groups of up to 3 students.

Complete the following parts of this assignment with respect to the DSpace digital library system (http://www.dspace.org)

    * Install DSpace
    * Configure the system for publications and with the full set of services it can offer
    * Populate it with data harvested from the OAI-PMH repository with baseURL [http://pubs.cs.uct.ac.za/perl/oai2]

Write a critical analysis of the DSpace system, as a first time admin/user, including:

    * short summary of what it is and what it does
    * a discussion of the simplicity/complexity of installation, interoperability and use
    * what DSpace's strengths and weaknesses are
    * where you think it can be improved

Your report must be at most 3 pages long, 12 point Times Roman, 2.5cm margins, single line-spacing. It must be submitted electronically through this website as a Microsoft Word document file. Clearly list the students' name at the top.

You will be required to do a short demo of your system, soon after handin.

The demo will be worth 30% of the marks and the report will account for the rest.
